You then travel up the River Havel to go around Hermannswerder. The canoe tour (suitable for beginners) is a very popular and easy stretch along the River Havel in the direction of Potsdam. Caputh Castle looks picturesque from the water, nestled between trees and bushes.

From Caputh Boote boat rental (www.caputh-boote.de, Gelbe Welle (yellow wave) symbol), you head east in the direction of Lake Templiner See, go under the railway bridge, past the Olympic Training Centre in Potsdam in the direction of the Potsdam Centre, past the ferry at Kiewitt and on until you can see the Nikolaikirche church, past Speicherstadt Potsdam (Potsdam’s warehouse district). Here, you turn right to go around the island of Hermannswerder. You then canoe through the flat, narrow Judengraben, past the Inselhotel to Templiner See, back under the railway bridge past Forsthaus Templin in the direction of Caputh Castle to the starting point.

Distance: 13 kilometres / about 4-5 hours

Start/Finish: Caputh Boote boat rental

Only suitable for manual watercraft.

  • Conference hotel with open air bar
  • Kombüse No.22 at Potsdam marina
  • Seerose Potsdam (detour)
  • Inselhotel Potsdam
  • Waldbad Templin forest pool/Braumanufaktur Forsthaus Templin brewery
