The natural surroundings are almost untouched. The gentle current allows you to paddle in both directions. You can also really soak up the diverse and unspoilt landscape on shorter, peaceful canoe tours along picturesque sections of the river.

The tour is ideal for nature lovers because it leads through a unique landscape in the heart of West Havelland Nature Park. With a bit of luck, you will also see a few kingfishers, black storks, kites or beavers. Numerous natural bathing area invite you to take a break along the way. Anyone who wants to canoe in stages will find idyllically located bivouac areas that are suitable for camping overnight. There are also camp sites with landing stages and the necessary services along the Lower Havel.

Start: Rathenow

Finish: Havelberg

Route: Rathenow - Grütz - Molkenberg - Gülpe - Gahlberg - Strodehne/Garz - Vehlgast - Hanseatic town of Havelberg

On-shore outings:
  • Rathenow: Optikindustriemuseum, Optikpark, Weinberg and Weinbergbrücke
  • Grütz: one of the last needle dams in Germany at Grütz lock
  • Molkenberg: idyllically located post mill and church in Schollene
  • Gülpe: the unique birds’ paradise at Lake Gülper See with viewpoints and nature trail
  • Strodehne: a lovely artists’ village with a beautiful church and mill as well as a sculpture garden
  • Garz: Church and historic four-sided farmyards
  • Vehlgast: Neo-Gothic brick church in Vehlgast, good opportunities to observe rare animals along the river to the Hanseatic town of Havelberg
  • Hanseatic town of Havelberg: beautiful Altstadtinsel with half-timbered houses and St. Marien Cathedral

Nautical information: Only manual watercraft are permitted on Gülper Havel from June 16 to March 1.
