The small village of Großderschau was formed in 1938 from seven colonies settled from 1749 to 1787 by Friedrich II that used to be called Friedrichsdorf. Kolonistenkirche Großderschau colonist church was built in 1785 upon completion of the drainage work on the order of Frederick II and is the only church the king had built for the colonists.

The layout of the church is supposedly based on the former Potsdam garrison church. The colonist church is a solid stucco building and was built during the transitionary period from the Baroque to the Classical era. It is worth noting that the church runs from north to south and not from east to west as is normally the case. The hall running crosswise is 22 metres long and 15 metres wide. The square tower is 28 metres high. The free-standing wooden altar in front of the pulpit dates from when the church was built. The Lütkemüller organ is against the south wall on the lower gallery, which is convex in shape here and interrupts the upper gallery.

In 1994, the nave of the church was re-roofed, in 1995 the church ceiling was replaced and in 2002 the tower was restored. Since 2013, the Lütgemüller organ is again being played after 35 years of silence.
