On the Feast of St George, April 23, 1892, construction of the church began, as did construction of the rectory. The plan was to build a cruciform Gothic Revival church but they did not have enough money and the incomplete church was built without an apse or side aisles. Church consecration on September 3, 1893.

In 1936, the three bells were consecrated: St. Augustinus, St. Agnes, Stabat mater dolorosa (The sorrowful mother was standing…). At the beginning of 1942, the two bigger bells were taken away to be used for armaments but the little Stabat Mater bell still rings to this day. During the Second World War, the church was not hit by bombs and only suffered minor damage to the roof. The church obtained a Gothic Revival high altar. From 1979 to 1986, the church and the sanctuary (pews, floor, oculus, altar, ambon, tabernacle and much more) were rebuilt.

In spring 2014, the process of redesigning the sanctuary began. The challenge was to arrange the incomplete architecture (missing apse) using artistic elements so that the interplay between the back wall and the altar becomes clear. A further task was to complete the inside of the church leading to the liturgical centre.

Viewings before and after services or arranged in advance with Vicar Markus Hartung, telephone +49 3385 503405.
