The church was built between 1150 and 1180 as a fortified church and dedicated to the apostle Peter. The lower part of the tower is made of cobblestones dating from that time. From 1756 to 1763, the church nave was rebuilt, creating a so-called hall church.

The pulpit altar dates from 1713, was made by Ketzin master carpenter Frentsche and is a solid, hand-crafted work in the Late Baroque style. In addition to the Luther rose, three other Christian symbols are also depicted on the pulpit: Faith (the Bible), hope ( an anchor) and love (a heart). The town of Ketzin’s coat of arms can be seen on the gallery over the south entrance. The baptismal font was also made by the master carpenter from Ketzin. The baptismal basin from Messing was donated in 1662 by the church warden Lehmann.

After a fire in 1849, a new organ was once again installed on the gallery on the west side of the nave in 1878. Only the oldest of the original bells dating from 1555 has been preserved. The other bronze bells were taken down and melted during the First World War. In 2005, two bronze bells were newly cast and hung next to the old one dating from 1555 in a newly built belfry.
