Stadtkirche St.-Jacobi town church in Nauen is one of the oldest buildings in the historic town centre of Nauen. It is a three-nave Late Gothic brick hall church with five bays and a five-sided, closed circumambulatory choir. The bell tower, which crosses the church interior to the west, still shows impressive traces of the fire in 1695. It was redesigned many times since this big town fire in 1695. The tower and its clock with four dials in all four directions of the compass and its two bells dominate the townscape with its Baroque crown. The oldest remaining piece of furnishing is the altar between the east choir pillars. The altar made in 1710 bears pronounced Baroque forms. A crucifixion group is shown on the altar in a Rococo frame. The exceptionally ornate High Baroque baptismal font in the Italian style was made in 1724 by Schlüter’s student Johann Georg Glume. Rows of columns to the left and right, the altar and baptismal font demonstrate and make clear how important building the church was for the people of the 14th century.
Opening hours by arrangement.
