Wood burning requires enormous time and effort. An integrated process is set in motion – the interplay of material, the position of the objects in the firing chamber, temperature, the addition of ash and salt and the change of atmospheres creates the special aesthetics of the finishes. They produce results that appear random and are often unrepeatable. Each object therefore has its own very unique character. Matthias Panser also works with the Japanese raku technique.

His pieces are removed from the kiln glowing at 1000°C, which causes cracks to form in the glaze (craquelé), which then become visible when the objects are smoked during the cooling phase.

His works of art can be purchased in his workshop gallery. Courses in “Throwing” and “Turned pottery” can also be arranged.
