As a former fishing town, Ketzin is at the heart of some breathtaking river and lakeland scenery. This Havelland town also looks back on a centuries-old tradition as a ‘town of fishermen’. A walk through the old town of Ketzin will take you through narrow alleys and snug streets before bringing you to the Havel promenade. Feel a light wind on your face and quickly lose track of your thoughts. In your mind’s eye you’ll be able to envisage bygone times when fishing was a flourishing trade that characterised day-to-day life and business here.

It’s no wonder, then, that this location has found its way onto the silver screen. In the German adventure film ‘Tom Sawyer’, Ketzin’s Lake Trebelsee doubles up as the American Mississippi. The filmmakers chose this 2.5-kilometre-long lake as the picturesque setting for the raft trips that Tom Sawyer and his bosom buddy Huckleberry Finn go on. This classic of children’s literature was also filmed in the neighbouring Roskow and Groß Kreutz. Director Hermine Huntgeburth and her team found the ideal spot for Huck Finn's famous barrel in the village district of Deetz with its many burrows. After a day full of exciting adventures it’s here that Tom’s best friend sets up camp and cooks his catch on a stick.

If you’d like to go on a culinary discovery trip too, you’ll also find a few choice cafes and restaurants by the water in Ketzin alongside its exciting filming locations.
