The Bismarckturm (‘Bismarck Tower’) is a landmark of the town of Rathenow, standing in its idyllic Weinberg area that was once a popular destination for a day out. Alongside wine-growing, up until the Second World War the area was also home to parks adorned with flowerbeds. The highest point of the Weinberg is the Kiekeberg, which was chosen as the location for the Bismarckturm.

The neo-Gothic tower was officially opened on June 21, 1914. The building, visible from far away, is the town of Rathenow’s second major landmark, after its church tower. It is 34 metres tall. The upper interior was a memorial in honour of Otto von Bismarck, the first chancellor of a unified Germany. The exterior offers a wide view over the Mark Brandenburg. The summit can be reached by climbing one of the spiral stone staircases that are located in the two side pillars.

Guided tours can be booked via the Rathenow tourist information centre (+49 3385 514991).
