The “Euthanasia Centre” within the grounds of the Old Brandenburg Prison, was one of six so-called “Aktion T4” killing facilities. This campaign killed over 70,000 people with mental disorders and disabilities in the years 1940 to 1941.

The “Old Prison”, which was given the code name “Brandenburg State Care Facility a.H.” killed approximately 9,000 patients from psychiatric hospitals in Northern and Central Germany, including Berlin, by poisonous gas between January and October 1940.
