The Emster Canal was designed in the 19th century for transporting bricks. It is a scenic waterway that is only navigable with small sports boats, canoes and rowing boats. The landing stage at the canal therefore caters for canoes and rowing boats only. Nature lovers will appreciate the close proximity to the bird observation tower by the Streng that can be reached on foot. There is also a nature trail with information about the outstanding local flora and fauna.
