The Plaue Palace Park is located at the western edge of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel, directly on the shoreline of Lake Plauer See. The park extends a good kilometre along the shore of the River Havel, which bends north here towards the River Elbe. It is also at this point that the very attractive and charming section of the Lower Havel river begins.  The Palace Park is based on a landscape garden created here in the middle of the 19th century by the then Count of Koenigsmarck, and replaced an older baroque garden. The original larger "zoo" extended further into the area covered by the town’s current public park to the south and west along the shoreline of the lakes. Today it still covers around 19 hectares.
