Lake Schwielowsee is a beautiful place for sailing in spite of its deep waters and changing winds. Separated by a few bridges from Berlin and Potsdam, the shores of the lake are a nature reserve with virtually no buildings. For anyone looking for natural surroundings but would still like to enjoy local culture, the municipalities of Caputh, Ferch and Geltow are recommended.

Start/finish: Campingplatz Sassouci, Potsdam

Distance: 16 kilometres

Description:

You can start a sailing tour across Lake Schwielowsee from Windsurfing Potsdam, for example (at Campingplatz Sanssouci). The name is somewhat misleading: Martin Klintz in fact offers a range of different sailing boats (hourly and daily) for rent. From Lake Templiner See, the tour goes in a southerly direction via the Havel (Caputh House to the left) to the strait called Caputher Gemünde (watch out for the Havel ferry at this point). Passing under the railway bridge you reach Lake Schwielowsee, which extends for about 5 kilometres in front of you. In the afternoon especially, the lake glistens beautifully from the sun in the west. It is set amid hills that are about 150 metres high. The locality of Ferch at the southern end of the lake is a perfect place to take a break.

As a federal waterway, Lake Schwielowsee belongs to the Potsdam Havel, for which Brandenburg Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible.
