The Bahnitz Lock will be closed to vessel traffic from September 15, 2026, until approximately November 20, 2026. During this period, small vessels may continue to use the self-service barge lock (measuring 2.70 m x 12.00 m) located in the immediate vicinity.

Construction of Bahnitz lock was completed in 1912. Not far from the lock, directly next to the weir, there is a barge lock (self-service) for sports boats. It’s worth going on land for a brief tour at this point: on the lock grounds next to the half-timbered lock building, the historical lock is on display whose individual needles once had to be refitted by hand. The new weir with barge lock was completed in 2009.

Barge lock: Lock chamber 12.00 metres long; 2.70 metres wide, self-service lock.

Dimensions of boat lock: Lock chamber 200.00 metres long; 18.80 metres wide, gate width: 10.00 metres.

Drop height: 0.77 metres maximum
