The bicycle tour around the Spremberg reservoir is the longest lake circuit in the Lusatian Lake District. There is an obvious reason for this record: The Spremberg reservoir is the fourth-largest reservoir in the whole of Germany, and the only one in the State of Brandenburg. The stretch along the reservoir runs in a ring along paths lined with pine trees. Countless bays and islands break the surface of the water, which means that the lake circuit really meanders along the shoreline.

Start/finish (recommended): Neuhausen/Spree, district of Bagenz – at Bagenz campsite

Circular route via: Bagenz - Sellessen - Bühlow - Bräsinchen

Trail conditions: The circular path runs on the asphalted lake circuit and is predominantly level, and uneven in places.

Points of interest along the route:
  • 2.2 kilometres long dam wall (about 20 metres high)
  • Neuhausen/Spree Water Festival in June
  • “Stausee in Flammen” (reservoir in flames)


Food & drink: Lakeside restaurant, snack bar and shop for day-to-day shopping on both campsites in Bagenz (on the east bank) and Klein Döbbern (on the west bank)

Parking: at the campsites in Bagenz (on the east bank) and Klein Döbbern (on the west bank)

Useful tips for the bicycle tour:
  • Bathing areas: Sandy bathing areas at Bagenz (east bank) and Klein Döbbern (west bank)
  • Viewpoints: lots of little rest areas around the lake, best view to the north of the campsite on the west bank
  • Public toilets: on the Bagenz side and the Klein Döbberner side
  • Playgrounds: there is one playground on the Bagenz side (east bank) and one on the Klein Döbbern side (west bank).
  • connecting lake circuits: none
  • the longest part of the lake circuit is in the shade
  • the lake circuit has the usual direction signs


Tip: Anglers will be very happy at the Spremberg reservoir. The reservoir has one of the highest stocks of fish in Brandenburg, with good chances of catching carp, tench, bream, eel, zander and pike.
