The imposing three-nave hall church in the centre of Senftenberg was built in late Gothic style in the second half of the 15th century and has been continuously extended ever since. Even though the interior of the church is rather plain, it has an impressive cellular vault that spans the entire church building – the only one of its kind in Brandenburg and Saxony. The whitewashed walls and the simple altar made of sandstone as well as the wooden baptismal font almost convey a monastic atmosphere – perfect for visitors looking for a brief moment of silence.

At the end of the Second World War, the church burned down completely, with reconstruction lasting until 1958. The Eule organ from 1960 has 2,222 pipes, and the three church bells in the tower were cast in Apolda. Today the church is a place of worship as well as for events and concerts.

It is part of the “Open Church” initiative and can be visited from July to August every Wednesday to Sunday. In winter, services are held in the community centre of the Wendish Church 100 metres away.
