The present Catholic village church of Schenkendorf / Sękowice, built in the 2nd half of the 17th century, has been under renovation since 2007. An extremely dedicated priest and a number of very active parishioners in the village brought about the miracle of rescuing this architectural jewel. The German-Polish Foundation for the Maintenance of Culture and Protection of Monuments (DPS) responded to the request for a subsidy from the Woiwodschaft Lubuskie (Lubusz Province) Monuments Department and included the remaining 2015 part building project covering completion, technical reworking, gallery restoration in its funding for 2015. The project was made possible by funds from the Commissioners for Culture and Media (BKM) with the DPS as the funding institution. The subsidised works on the gallery were integrated into a partial construction stage that also included the restoration and reinstatement of an initial part of the historic interior colour scheme, financed by the Marshall’s Office and Monuments Department of Woiwodschaft Lubuskie (Lubusz Province) with a proportional also paid by the church community. The 2015 restoration stage was carried out from the autumn to the end of 2015.

The Schenkendorf / Sękowice village church is one of the oldest, most interesting skeleton structures in Woiwodschaft Lubuskie (Lubusz Province). The central structure, with its lively, three-level architecture that tapers towards the top (church octagon, tambour octagon, roof lantern), is typically found in the historic cultural landscape of Brandenburg; the half-timbered church in Garz an der Havel (now Saxony-Anhalt), built in 1688, which is also octagonal is very similar in external appearance. The gallery church in Schenkendorf has attracted particular interest in terms of art history since the end of the 1980s at the latest.

The building is of great artistic, historic and scientific value, as confirmed by the monument protection authority of the Woiwodschaft Lubuskie (Lubusz Province).
