The 298 hectare lake in Saxony was created by the flooding of a former surface mine to the north of the municipality of Lohsa. Today, the lake is a popular local recreation area with a bathing area, restaurants and cafés, caravan site and a cycle path leading right around the lake. The lake is well stocked with fish. However, there is a ban on fishing all year round in the bay in the north-east. Fishing from boats is allowed, as is hegene fishing. Lohsa has parking and offers the best access to the lake. In the south-western part of the lake, there is a flooded forest, which is a well-known area for large predatory fish. The smallest pike and zander are 60 centimetres.
