The classic guided tour of Hoyerswerda's old town starts at the tourist information office in the Kulturfabrik am Bürgerzentrum. Along the way, you will visit the historic market square with its Sorbian fountain and post milestone, and learn interesting facts about Hoyerswerda's significance for medieval Lusatia. The popularly named “Handwerkergasse” (Craftsmen's Alley) is the historic Lange Straße, which is often mentioned. Participants will see lovingly restored 18th-century craftsmen's cottages, which are rarely found in this form in Germany today. The tour continues on foot past St. John's Church, along Kleine Bleiche to Hoyerswerda Castle. The original old moated castle now houses the city museum, and Hoyerswerda Zoo is located next door. The old town tour is particularly suitable for groups, company and family celebrations and offers a varied combination of history, architecture and vivid stories from the development of Hoyerswerda.
