The Saxon post milestones, which were very impressive and informative, were placed along the country and postal roads and in front of the town gates, depending on their purpose. The Guben post milestone is about 4.50 metres high and is inscribed on two sides only. The coloured coat of arms in the upper part of the stone is particularly striking. It is the Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian coat of arms and symbolises the reign of August the Strong as Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Underneath, on a blue background, are the initials of August the Strong as AR (Augustus Rex). Above the coat of arms is the golden crown of the Elector and below the coat of arms one can see the travel routes. The milestone is located in front of the Egelneisse bridge on a small green area in Guben's town centre.
