This section of the beach is located in the southeast of the town of Vetschau/Spreewald in the village of Laasow. The name of the lake is a reminder of the former village that had to make way for the open pit mine. Lake Gräbendorf was created until 2007 by flooding the former Gräbendorf open-cast lignite mine. The first floating house in the Lusatian Lakeland was built in this section of Lake Gräbendorf in 2008.
