The 13 square kilometres big lake Bärwalder See in Boxberg/Lausitz in the south of the Lusatian Lake District has plenty to offer when it comes to active recreation by and on the water. “Sporty – natural – artistic” is the official motto of the lake. Three bathing areas with a total length of four kilometres are scattered around the lake.

At the bathing area in Boxberg/O.L., visitors can choose between a textile, a textile-free and a dog beach. The water quality is very high and subject to ongoing monitoring. During the bathing season, the shore areas are cleaned on a regular basis.

At the lakeside promenade you will find the tourist information centre “Bärwalder See” with information services and bathroom facilities, as well as the landscape art “ear” with the “Theater im Ohr” amphitheatre and an inline skating arena. An asphalted 21 kilometres long path leads around the lake. The campsite “Sternencamp am Bärwalder See” in Boxberg/Oberlausitz was established right by the bathing area in 2015. It features comfortable camper and caravan plots and a snack bar.

Annual bathing season: May 15 to September 15 Bathing is not permitted outside the season.

Bärwalder See was completed in 2010 and created by flooding the former lignite mining site Bärwalde.
