Lake Gräbendorf was created from a renaturalised open-cast lignite mine. After being flooded from 1996 to 2007, it was opened in 2009 and can be used by everyone. The centrepiece of the lake is the 170 ha island in the middle, which is part of the European bird sanctuary. To protect the birds, the island may not be entered. The eastern shore area of the lake is also a nature reserve. The lake is not permitted for boats with combustion engines, but is open for fishing. Due to its good water quality, the lake enjoys a high level of popularity. A 9.4 km long, developed circular path leads once around the entire lake.

There is a small beach section that is easily accessible from the car park. This is located on the southern shore of the lake in the Casel/Kózle district of the town of Drebkau/Drjowk and can be reached via the L52 (Calauer Straße).

The rest of the site consists of a meadow, which can also be used as a sunbathing area. Next to the beach is the Camp Casel campsite.

In addition, the glamping site of Camp Moeve has settled near the beach. There is a kiosk with snacks and drinks.

The Umwelt- und Begegnungszentrum Gräbendorfer See in Casel also offers small meals and drinks as well as a toilet during selected opening hours. There is also a playground here.
