With an area of 13 square kilometres of water, Lake Bärwalder See in Boxberg/Oberlausitz in the south of the Lusatian Lake District offers plenty of possibilities for active recreation by and on the water, with the motto “Sporty – Natural – Artistic”. In total, three bathing areas with an overall length of 4 kilometres are spread around the lake.

The beach area at Klitten has a very attractive textile bathing area. The bathing water quality is very good and the area is supervised during the bathing season by the German Red Cross (DRK) lifeguards for Saxony, depending on staff availability. Parking is available to visitors for a fee. Klitten Marina, which is about 600 metres away, has bathroom facilities, berths on water and on land, boat rental and places to eat. The bathing areas are regularly cleaned during the bathing season.

The asphalted lakeside walk runs for 21 kilometres along the bathing areas. There is a direct link to the Spree Cycle Path, the Lakeland Route, the Sea Eagle Cycle Path and the Wolf Cycle Path.

Annual bathing season: May 15 to September 15. Bathing outside the bathing season is not allowed.

Lake Bärwalder See was created by flooding of the former Bärwalde lignite mine in the years up to 2010.
