Lake Bärwalder See in the south of the Lusatian Lake District with its 13 square kilometre-large water surface and motto “Sporty - Natural - Artistic” offers many possibilities for active recreation at and on the water. A total of three bathing areas with a total length of 4 kilometres are distributed along the lake.

The Uhyst bathing area includes textile, nudist and dog bathing areas. The bathing water quality is excellent and is constantly monitored. Bathers have access to paid parking spaces, bathroom facilities and catering in the bathing area. During the bathing season the bathing sections are cleaned early every day.

Running alongside the bathing area is an asphalt 21-kilometre-long lake circuit with a direct connection to the Spree Cycle Path, the Lakeland Route and the Sea Eagle Cycle Path. Near the beach there is a 130-hectare safari game reserve; guided tours are possible by prior arrangement.

Annual bathing season: May 15 to September 15 Bathing outside the bathing season is prohibited.

Lake Bärwalder See was created in the years preceding 2010 by flooding the former Bärwalde lignite surface lignite mine.
