The village of Tätzschwitz is located on the Saxon-Brandenburg border between the cities of Hoyerswerda and Senftenberg. It still belongs to the Upper Lusatia region and has deep Sorbian roots. Tätschwitz with its approx. 550 inhabitants belongs to the municipality of Elsterheide and thus forms a small district. The school and local history museum was opened in 2001 in the building of the old primary schools. Here you can experience school history from the time of the Kaiser until the 1980s. Visitors can look forward to original records by the teacher of the time, essays by pupils, curricula and much more from the past. The village museum also has a small exhibition on life and work in the Sorbian extended family of yesteryear, as well as a newly furnished traditional costume room. Particularly valuable is the exhibition of the Sorbian peasant wedding, which contains original costume pieces from over 100 years ago. Outside the village museum, there is a flax room with a functioning loom and a wood-burning oven built in 2016.
