The striking tower offers a panoramic view over the Calauer Schweiz. On a clear day, the view stretches as far as Calau’s town church, Cottbus, the Jänschwalde power station, the F 60 visitor mine near Lichterfeld, and even as far as the Lusatian Highlands. 216 steps lead up to the viewing platform, 38 metres above the forest floor. At the foot of the tower, tables and benches invite visitors to take a break.

The observation tower is accessible only on foot – the easiest route is from the rest area at Weißag (Luckaitztal municipality). Marked hiking trails lead here from Werchow and Luckaitztal railway station.

The tower was built as a joint project between the municipality of Luckaitztal, the Altdöbern district and the town of Calau. It is constructed from 93,850 clinker bricks from the nearby Buchwäldchen clinker works (Wienerberger GmbH), where bricks have been fired from clay and sand since 1864.
