Just upstream of Grießen, a weir regulates the water level in the River Neiße. On the German side, the power station canal branches off the River Neiße on the left-hand side of the weir. The river itself meanders its way through the landscape, but water levels are very low in this section. Water tourists are therefore recommended to use the power plant canal and take boats out of the water at the weir by the power plant. A weir also needs to be circumnavigated as you enter the canal although experienced canoeists can paddle through the left-hand hatchway. Boats needs to be taken out of the river at the power plant to the right of the weir – there is private land on the left which may not be trespassed. Boats can be returned to the water immediately downstream of the hydroelectric power plant.
