The bike tour around Lake Templin shows that culture and nature go hand in hand in Potsdam. The ideal starting point for the ride into the blue is the Alte Markt. From the dome of the Nikolai Church you get a wonderful view of the entire cityscape. This is also where it becomes particularly clear how closely the city is

with the Havel and its lakes.

Past the main train station, the path leads along the shore of Lake Templin in the direction of Caputh. Again and again, small bathing spots invite you to linger. A detour to the Einstein House and Caputh Castle should not be missed. The scientist Albert Einstein spent a lot of time in the summer house and preferred this place of residence in the last years he spent in Germany before he emigrated to America. During a visit, his reasons become understandable. Caputh Castle, the oldest preserved castle building in Potsdam's cultural landscape from the time of the Great Elector Frederick William, brings more than 350 years of history to life. Before taking the ferry to Geltow, it is worth taking a break along the shore path. Here you can watch amateur captains, recreational swimmers and bon vivants.

The bike path along the banks of the Havel in Geltow leads back to downtown Potsdam and first past the airship harbor. As the name suggests, airships belonging to Count Zeppelin landed on the site from 1911 to 1917. Zeppelins were also built here. In the 1920s, the city of Potsdam converted the area into a land and water sports field, in the tradition of which today's use as an Olympic base stands. From the airship harbor, the riverbank path leads directly to the city center. If you wish, you can take the regional express from Charlottenhof station to the main station.
