The church with the detached, Italian style campanile was built at the behest of Frederick Wilhelm IV in 1842/43, following first plans of Ludwig Persius. The case of the organ dates back to 1856. The musical instrument with 12 stops was constructed by Schuke in 1978.

Reliefs formed from cast iron in the beginning of the 19th century and three baroque epitaphs are worth visiting. Among the epitaphs one reminds of the scholar and court jester of the Soldier King, Jakob Paul von Gundling, who is say to be buried in a wine barrel.

An arcade court forms the entrance area to the church. It is completed to the north by the 34-meter high campanile covering the oldest bronze bell in Potsdam from the 14th century.
