The nearest view from the new palace was a little to the right to the village of Eichow, with the dilapidated old church in poor condition clearly visible to the front.

So the King decided to have the same buildings newly erected.

Initially he wanted the church and tower to be built in the style of a Turkish or Arab mosque but he changed his mind and had a drawing prepared according to modern taste.

Georg Christian Unger designed a circular domed building with a slender, 32-metre-high bell tower to the south, with a cornice decorated with four stone vases made by Johann Christian Angermann and a gallery supported by Tuscan wooden columns on high pedestals.

The small church was consecrated on October 31, 1771.

Repairs became necessary in 1793 and in 1881/82 the church was extended with the addition of a hall as a counterpart to the tower.

The spire was destroyed in the Second World War and subsequently replaced with a tent-shaped temporary structure.

Renovation work under the direction of Winfried Wendland was completed in spring 1961.

A confirmation room was installed above the entrance hall, while a new pulpit and a chalice-shaped sandstone baptismal font were erected by Bornstedt master stonemason Max Kaufmann.
