The Sternkirche – officially the church of Potsdam’s Protestant parish of Stern – is located in the Potsdam residential district Am Stern, in the street Im Schäferfeld. However, the premises of the church are also used by the parish of the residential district Am Schlaatz.

The word “Stern” means “star” and this is very much reflected in the building itself: linking it to the residential district and using it as a Christian symbol, Berlin architect H. Göbel translated the “star” concept into the design of the church. The ground plan of the church hall is octagonal and all functional rooms are arranged around it in a star shape. The exterior view is also very much adapted to the modernist style. The church was consecrated on January 2, 1990.
