The Friedenskirche, Church of Peace, in Sanssouci Park was constructed by Ludwig Persius and August Stüler from 1845 to 1848. They used sketches by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV.

The three-nave columned basilica, the neighbouring preacher´s house and the small Marly Garden are part of an architectural ensemble that connects the romantically influenced religiousness of the King with his admiration for Italy. So the church is modelled on the early Christian building of San Clemente in Rome.
