On July 14, 1861, Pastor Franz Xaver Beyer called upon the Catholic community to found an orphanage.

After the purchase of two plots of land in Zimmerstrasse, the orphanage with chapel was built in 1867 according to plans by court architect Ernst Petzholtz.

The church was consecrated on October 15, 1868.

The construction of the present chapel was completed with its consecration on June 21, 1876.
