Between 1946 and 1990, more than 1,200 cinema and television films of various artistic and political orientations were produced on the Babelsberg site. Today, Hollywood stars such as Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Grant and George Clooney have made their mark here. Major Hollywood productions such as "The Bourne Conspiracy", "Bridge of Spies", "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Around the World in 80 Days" and "Cloud Atlas" were made in the studios.

The Metropolitan Backlot on the neighbouring site is the largest outdoor set in the world. The series "Babylon Berlin" and the entire fifth season of the American series "Homeland" starring Claire Danes were filmed there. The military camp from the Hollywood film "Monuments Men" is also located there.
