The "Botanischer Garten der Universität Potsdam", a botanical garden and arboretum maintained by the University of Potsdam, comprises an outdoor area of approximately 5 hectares in Sanssouci Park and a number of show greenhouses. Some 10,000 plant species from all continents are on show, including the smallest (pin-size miniature duck-weed) and the largest plant in the world (giant sequoia – up to 100 metres high). Also worth a visit are the protected and endangered indigenous plants that are preserved in cultures.

In addition, there is a lot of information and insights into the life of plants and the exhibition “In der Spur des Menschen – Biologische Invasionen” shows the tracks left by humans and biological invasions. Regular events are held on special topics related to the diversity of plants.
