The area between Glienicke Bridge and Cecilienhof Palace in the New Garden is one of the most popular destinations in Potsdam. Little remains to remind us that up until 1990 the border between the GDR and West Berlin traversed this very spot, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. On eight information pillars the exhibit shows and explains the system of the border barriers with a focus on daily life in the border area. The information trail extends from Glienicke Bridge to Bertinistrasse, where a key East–West border crossing for maritime traffic existed from 1964 to 1990.

The information trail is accessible all year round. A leisurely walk from Glienicke Bridge (Station 1) to Bertinistrasse (Station 8) takes about 60 minutes.
