The Court and Garrison Church, built in 1735, was considered an outstanding example of northern German baroque architecture. It was badly damaged after a bombing raid in April 1945. During the division of Germany, the GDR leadership had the ruins of the church blown up in 1968.

Like a mirror, this monument reflects the complexity of German history over the past three centuries. Symbolically associated with rise and fall, human achievement and failure, this becomes a forum for historical and current discourse. Remembering the past, shaping the future, living peace and democracy: That's what the tower of the rebuilt garrison church is all about.

The garrison church is barrier-free: elevator to the visitors' terrace, wheelchair-accessible toilet, no threshold, color-contrasting and equipped with a Braille guidance system.
