Four columns support a sphinx and next to the gate there are two black statues of gods. Behind the high windows is the Orangery, where delicate plants survive the winter. The richly decorated concert hall in the middle section – the Palm Hall – is still used for performances. King Frederick William II was a very talented cellist and gave concerts here himself. During his visit to Potsdam Mozart added a cello part to his first Prussian Quartet in D major, which the king is said to have performed for the first time. In front of the Orangery there is a beautiful perennial garden.
