The Schaudepot of the Filmmuseum Potsdam, located in the collections building of the Medienstadt Babelsberg, offers fascinating insights into more than 100 years of German film history. Around 750 exhibits and 400 written works – including props, costumes, technical equipment and models – are on display. The depot also provides a glimpse behind the scenes of curatorial work, from documentation and conservation to the presentation of film-historical objects.

Particular highlights include the Werner Nekes Collection, featuring illusionary media from the pre-cinematic era, as well as numerous set design drafts and special effects models. In addition, hands-on stations invite visitors to experience film technology and optical effects in an interactive way.

The Schaudepot appeals equally to film enthusiasts, researchers and students, showcasing how Germany’s film heritage is preserved and studied. Visits are possible within bookable time slots, and themed guided tours offer additional insights.
