The Normannischer Turm, a Norman tower commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1845 and based on the plans of Ludwig Persius, is an almost 23 metre high, four-storey watchtower with an accessible roof area surrounded by battlements. It was connected directly to the theatre wall where once there had been a wooden platform. The King had a tearoom installed on the top floor and a small guard´s house attached to the west side of the tower Due to the early death of Persius and after his trip to Italy, Ferdinand von Arnim ended the building work between 1845 and 1846 in his role as foreman.
