From 1724, Friedrich Wilhelm I. established a new hunting ground not far from the former Potsdam city palace as a star trail for the par force hunt, which had become fashionable at the time, to satisfy his passion for hunting. In 1730-1732 he had the hunting lodge and other buildings built directly at the star shaped junction in the style of a Dutch town house. The hunting lodge is the only new build for the Prussian king and is today the oldest palace in Potsdam. It is built in the same style as the Dutch Quarter in the city centre and the Dutch Etablissement in the New Garden, reflecting the king's penchant for the Netherlands.

Special features of the palace are the wood-panelled hall with oil paintings inlaid in the panelling, showing Frederick William I at various hunting events, and the king's sleeping quarters, a wooden, greenish-painted built-in wall with a deep bed niche in the style of a ship's bunk, as was found in Frisian fishermen's and sailors' houses.

The basic features of the hunting lodge have been preserved to this day. Approach via Großbeerenstraße out of town.
