The area around Wusterhausen/Dosse appeared isolated to the German poet and novelist Fontane. He found this section extremely gloomy – today it is a wonderful route, escaping from small areas of forest and arable land to breathe in the country air.

Wusterhausen/Dosse – starting point of the full-day tour – is the perfect place for a leisurely look around with its picturesque old town. The tour continues on to Brunn. In front of the church there is a tombstone, which Fontane described in his walks. The manor house belonging to the von Rohr family originally stood in the next village of Tramnitz. There are still traces of the family in the village church. The next stop on the bike tour is Tornow. The manor house and a park designed by Lenné are an example of how life is once again being breathed into old Brandenburg estates. The former owners bought it back years ago and carefully developed it into an organic farm with riding school. A small ferry carries cyclists over to Untersee Island on Lake Untersee. The last stop is the town of Kyritz, which used to carry the nickname “Kyritz on the Rattle” owing to the many clattering water mills in the town.
