It is not surprising that the Elbe Cycle Route has been one of Germany´s most popular long distance routes for many years now. With the large river always in sight, in the Prignitz the path runs along the Elbe dike, through the fascinating UNESCO “Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape” Biosphere Reserve. In spring and summer, storks dominate the scene. Many of them nest in Rühstädt, where they clatter away in competition with each other. The small village has been designated a “European Stork Village”.
