Beyond the village, the landscape opens up. The route follows the Elbe Cycle Route through the UNESCO Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve. Wide meadows, quiet floodplains, and long dikes shape the journey – accompanied by the clattering of storks searching for food in the damp grasslands.

Between expansive Elbe floodplains, green meadows, and tranquil river scenery, you eventually reach the idyllic village of Wahrenberg – one of Germany’s most stork-rich villages. More than 20 nests and numerous white storks define the village’s summer atmosphere. The surrounding nature of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve provides a unique habitat. On site, a range of existing attractions invites visitors to linger, including the floodplain nature trail with information boards, guided nature and stork tours, events, as well as accommodation, dining options, and rest areas.

This makes the tour from Rühstädt to Wahrenberg a truly special nature experience – ideal for anyone looking to combine activity, tranquillity, and the fascinating world of storks.
