The biodiverse wetland meadows of Rambower Moor, which covers around 450 hectares, are the result of the extensive mowing and grazing in recent centuries. In the centre of the moor lies Lake Rambower See, surrounded by a wide reed zone, which is the largest of several residual water areas on the moor. In the late autumn and spring, the mostly flat water is used by around 4,000 to a maximum of 7,000 cranes as a roosting place. In addition, other bird species can also be found there, such as snipe, bearded reedlings, grasshopper warblers and river warblers. The maintenance of Rambower Moor is supported by an EU Life Project.
