The half-timbered church in Bölzke stands on the village green in the heart of the circular village. The village stands at the crossroads of various ‘sustainable tourism’ routes, including pilgrimage routes and cycle paths. Visitors are sure to be drawn to the different seating and an exhibition on pilgrimage relating to the church. The half-timbered building dates back to 1825 and is still today the focus of many activities in the village. In 1999, the friends’ association was awarded the “Initiatives for Brandenburg Village Churches” prize and made it possible to save the church by an application for renovation. Construction damage has been part of the life of the church for centuries. At the beginning of the 19th century, the pastor of the previous building is said to have complained about the state of the church to the responsible Abbess of Heiligengrabe. The new building was hardly completed when the west wall had to be immediately replaced with bricks.
