Everyone has reached their boundaries in life – or has set boundaries. But the most rewarding thing is pushing these boundaries – as was the case in Lenzen in Prignitz district. Here, at the extreme north-western tip of Brandenburg, the border existed between East and West until the fall of the wall in 1989. But today only one last watchtower, which visitors will pass on a bicycle tour along the Elbe Cycle Path, is a reminder of the GDR era.

At the same time, the more than 1000-year old town of Lenzen has retained the flair of an old agricultural town. The historic town centre, for example, boasts romantic half-timbered houses and ancient giant trees – an ideal setting for filming parts of Til Schweiger's 2014 movie “Head Full of Honey”. The story is about the very special love between the eleven year old Tilda, played by Emma Schweiger, and her grandfather, Amandus (Dieter Hallervorden), who is becoming increasingly forgettable and can no longer cope with everyday life in the house.

But Tilda does not want to accept this. In a nutshell, she takes her grandfather on an eventful and unforgettable journey through this dreamy rural region, located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe through which about 70 kilometres of the river flows. The River Elbe is still today one of the few rivers in Central Europe that is close to nature. But the region between Lenzen and Lenzerwische not only attracts visitors with lots of nature and idyllic places. Sights also include St.-Katharinen-Kirche church with its late Gothic paintings, the Stumpfe Turm tower – the remains of the old town fortifications – as well as the town hall with its sundial.
