The small town of Kyritz is located to the west of a long chain of lakes in the Prignitz district. A tiny paradise has been hidden here in the middle of Lake Untersee for more than one hundred years. The so-called Insl island. It is a very special destination for a day out, completely surrounded by water and only accessible by a small boat. A place that invites you to rest and relax.

Kyritz showed a very different side during the reign of Frederick II. At that time, it was a garrison town and housed a cavalry regiment consisting of soldiers and horses. The king himself was never in Kyritz, but he influenced the construction activity in the town – and this can still be seen in the townscape to this day. For example, some half-timbered houses from the 18th century have been preserved despite repeated fires.

The creators of the movie “The Young Karl Marx” recognised this fact. In 2016, for example, some scenes of the German-French-Belgian co-production were filmed in the Ganz district of Kyritz and in Schloss Ganz castle. The movie is set in 1844, when the 26-year old Karl Marx, played by August Diehl, is already in exile in Paris with his wife Jenny, where he meets the young Friedrich Engels, son of a factory owner.

The rooms in Schloss Ganz castle were also used as a backdrop in two other productions, such as in the ZDF production “Hotel Adlon – A Family Saga” from 2012. The family saga tells the story of Berlin based around the legendary hotel, which has been one of the world's most prestigious addresses since it opened in 1907. The main roles of the three-part television series are played by Josefine Preuß, Heino Ferch, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Anja Kling, Christiane Paul and Katharina Wackernagel, amongst others. Schloss Ganz castle was also used in 2014 for interior shots for the German comedy movie “The Manny”. Matthias Schweighöfer was the director.
