The sculptor Christian Uhlig (born in 1944) from the Uckermark region demanded a lot of self-irony from the Wittenberge residents when he put the most diverse characters from different eras on a barge and asked the onlookers to toast them. When the bronze sculpture entitled "Time Travel” starts to oscillate, the onlookers experience how the crowd on the barge sing a song one after another.

Give the ship a gentle push and make it rock, because it rocks on the river of time, leisurely, but always forwards and the people with it! The passengers are both shapers of history and its symbols. There is the warrior of the Middle Ages with his helmet as well as the good citizen, the skipper, the philistine or the peasant woman. Have you found them? The devil is not missing either. The burgher steers the ship. A fool is also on board. He wants to keep the opposite direction. The cow goes into one of the city gates, a car comes out of the other gate: contemporary history!

Look in the direction of the Elbe!

A flautist and a bassist are sitting on the wall there. Music accompanies the journey through time with cheerfulness.

The sculpture is located exactly where the Old Town meets the Elbe, very close to the spot where the Elbe Gate once secured the city.
